I founded Pampered Pooch Pastries out of my love for dogs. My
veterinarian had explained to me the high calorie content of commercial
dog treats. The reason for the high calories was because of the
preservatives that are used in the form of a spray on fat. The fat makes the
treats highly palatable. Excess weight is as unhealthy for dogs as it is for
humans. But when owners are told to put their dogs on diets, they feel bad
about depriving their loved one of treats. I decided to experiment and came
up with cookies that would have a long shelf life, be low in calories, and
still be enjoyable for the Pampered Pooch. My cookies only contain
ingredients that are found in any baker’s pantry. I use low- fat, low sodium,
and sugar free ingredients all veterinarian approved, I might add. I test
marketed using 25 picky eaters. My cookies were a hit and I received rave
reviews. I knew that I had come up with “just what the doctor ordered”.
With my cookies, owners can give just as many snacks while reducing the
caloric intake.

Zack and Zowie are the quality control supervisors. Zack was adopted
from the Humane Society and Zowie was adopted from the APL. They
sample from every batch to insure the high quality of the cookies. Every
time the oven timer beeps, they come running, wagging their tails, and
eager to work. They take their jobs very seriously.

As the creator of Pampered Pooch Pastries, I find it very rewarding to hear
the stories of the dogs’ reactions to my cookies. I’ve heard about them
howling, dancing on their hind legs, rolling over and anything that will get
their owners to give them another snack. Some of the owners have even
admitted to indulging in my cookies since they are low-cal and made with
“people friendly” ingredients.
